CAST ACADEMY AT BALBOA HIGH SCHOOL NEWS
CA Department of Education Regional Model for
Arts, Media, Entertainment Career Technical Education in Northern California
and
Design Pre-Apprenticeship Program with Adobe
Since 2014 Balboa High School and the CAST and Game Design Academy have been recognized as a model Arts, Media, Entertainment Career Technical Education school sites in California who demonstrate implementation of program best practices and standards. As a regional model site we are responsible for supporting the California Department of Education in professional development needs, technical and curricular support to other programs in the region.
As of the 2022-23 school year, the CAST Academy has been working with the CA Department of Education and Adobe Education in design and implementation of a Pre-Apprenticeship model of learning tied to careers in digital media and design. Students who complete the program are well prepared for further education, training, or growing internship opportunities in art, media, and design fields.
LEOUNDAKIS CENTER FOR INNOVATION AND DESIGN RENOVATION
August 2024
After two years, and a $1.5 million dollar CTE facilities grant to support CAST Academy and the Balboa Community, Balboa's LCID Space (the former art wing) completed renovation in 2021 with new broadcast facilities, maker space/art studio, gallery, and media and animation classrooms.
We are very proud as this is the culmination of nearly seven years of work by Balboa teachers, administrators, community organizations, industry partners, alumni, and SFUSD!
DISTANCE LEARNING CHALLENGES AHEAD!!
AUGUST 10, 2020
Balboa High School staff and administration are hard at work preparing to make the most of distance learning, and preparing to make innovative adjustments to content and delivery, but will work hard to support and maintain high standards for all students.
